Over the course of 5 months I have been working on Neighborhoods as a character artist. I was responsible for creating additional outfits (all outfits screenshotted were done by me), and making a kid body base. I brought each piece through the full pipeline: concepting, modeling, retopo, UVing, texturing, weight painting, implementation into game. Each full outfit is in the range of 1k-2.5k tris. I made over 130 clothing pieces! Additionally I made animal models, I shared that in a separate post!
The style is so fun to work in! Though I constantly caught myself overdoing it with the details. This experience pushed my understanding of shape language, colour theory, normal map baking, and strengthened my knowledge in rigging.
As a character artist, I wasn't used to having such a low poly budget since the game is an isometric city sim. Learning how to balance between a very lowbake with tris and enough edge loops for deformation was a very fun challenge, that made me grow in so many ways!
A special thank you to Tara and Collin for helping me through this awesome journey!
