Juno Gender-bend Overwatch Fan Art

My interpretation of the gender-swap Juno from Overwatch! It was very fun figuring out how to tweak the design to keep the bubbly shapes but make it a bit more masculine.
For this project, I focused on the high details rather than optimization. Though the poly count is still within the technical requirements for modern games. The most fun was the shaders! The hair shaders started with a plug-in called Tiny Hair, and then I tweaked it to work for Overwatch. I also made another shader with the same base to create some stars in the character's hair, that are only seen within the moving highlights of the hair. I created a simple glass shader for the helmet using a fresnel, and used similar logic to create a shader for the eye highlight.
I made two materials in Substance Designer: his jacket and shoe pattern. I haven't worked in that program in a while, so it was fun rediscovering how the nodes work.
The whole pipeline was done in Blender, except for texturing, which I did in Substance Painter. I analyzed Overwatch models and noticed that they create an opacity gradient for the eyes, which I have implemented as well.
Additionally, I rigged and animated the character to push the presentation. If you look closely, you can see he is looking around and smirking within the animation! I used blend shapes to achieve that illusion. I'm planning on making a more detailed breakdown of this model, so stay tuned!
